PocketBook InkPad Lite: Large e-book reader at a low price

In October 2019 PocketBook released its largest e-book reader to date. Even if the InkPad X (test) was quite convincing at the time with its large display and good performance, the price did deter many potential buyers in the end. That should now change with the much cheaper InkPad Lite.

foreground lighting remains

In order to reach a sales price of 259 euros, however, the Swiss reader specialist had to put the savings on a few areas. The display with 9.7 inches and Carta technology is a little smaller than its big brother with 10.3 inches. The same applies to the resolution, which has shrunk from 1,404 × 1,872 pixels to just 825 × 1,200 pixels. While other e-book readers with a similar display size had to save on lighting in the past in order to achieve a comparable price, the InkPad Lite has the same foreground lighting as the other InkPad representatives. This also means that users do not have to do without a blue light filter.

Older design, smaller but expandable memory

Visually, however, the InkPad Lite does not sail in the wake of the current PocketBook readers, but is based on the design of the Swiss manufacturer's first devices. As a result, users do not find the leafy pages below the display as usual, but on the sides. On the other hand, this fact results in thinner margins.

In addition, the internal memory for your own content has been reduced from 32 GB to just 8 GB, but in contrast to the InkPad X, this can be expanded again with the new reader using a memory card, which almost turns the disadvantage into an advantage again. Otherwise, little has changed in terms of the technical basis, because the manufacturer also uses the familiar dual-core processor with a clock rate of 1 GHz for the InkPad Lite. Only the built-in battery has been slightly upgraded with a capacity of 2,200 mAh.

Many formats can be displayed

The InkPad Lite has the usual large format support from PocketBook readers, which can display 19 e-book and 4 image formats. The well thought-out and powerful software ensures that organization is easy. The new InkPad Lite should be available in stores before the Frankfurt Book Fair at the end of October.
