On the evening of May 3, 2020, a 33-year-old man was murdered in the Old Town. The man, who had left a birthday party, was shot close to the open street by two shooters.

– The murder took place in the open street with automatic weapons and is to be regarded as a pure execution, says Robert Eneljung, councilor and a by two legal judges in the case.

Afterwards, 16 people were charged with involvement in the murder. The district court considers that it has not been proven which of the accused shot the man and none of them is therefore convicted of murder. Twelve of them, however, are convicted of aiding and abetting murder and of preparing for the murder of the murdered man's brother and two cousins. A person is convicted of stamping for murder for having committed to kill the murdered man's brother.

The prison sentences imposed for aiding and abetting murder vary between 8 years and 10 months and life. Four are sentenced to life. Since six of the defendants were under the age of 21 when they committed the crimes, they have received shorter sentences due to their age. The convicts must also pay damages to the murdered man's relatives.

– The planning of the murder has taken place for a long time. The convicts have used encrypted Encrochat phones to plan the crimes and escape detection. It is clear that the intention has been to kill additional people, says Cecilia Ahlström, councilor and one of two legal judges in the case.
