LG UltraFine: Four OLED monitors are coming in the summer

OLED monitors should gradually emerge from the niche this year. LG is helping with four new models for the professional segment. Two long-known models are joined by the 32BP95E with 31.5 inches and the 27BP95E with 27 inches. Both offer UHD resolution, DisplayHDR 400 True Black and self-calibration.

BP95E with integrated colorimeter

The last-mentioned function is the main difference between the two BP95E models compared to the LG UltraFine 32EP950 and LG UltraFine 27EP950, which were presented in advance. A corresponding sensor (colorimeter) is integrated into the monitor for self-calibration, something that has been around for a long time at Eizo. The possibility of hardware calibration as well as the color calibration already carried out ex works have all models of the UltraFine OLED Pro family in common.

This also applies to the resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels, which is displayed with the standard frequency of 60 Hz. Based on the 32EP950, about which LG has already revealed most of the details, all OLED monitors in the series should offer 10-bit color depth and a very high contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1 thanks to OLED. The brightness should reach a typical value of 250 cd/m² and selectively up to 540 cd/m². This clears the hurdle of 400 cd/m² for the VESA standard DisplayHDR 400 True Black. The deep black, LG speaks of 0.0005 cd/m² in the best case, is another strength of OLED displays compared to LCDs. In terms of response time, the specification of 1 ms is again disappointing, because OLEDs should actually be significantly faster in the gray change than LCDs, which also achieve 1 ms (with overdrive).

USB-C with 90 watts for all OLED-Pro models

When it comes to connections, the product family also agrees with two DisplayPort, one HDMI, one USB-C with up to 90 watts, three USB-A sockets and a headphone output. The options for aligning the display, including height adjustment and pivot, but without horizontal swiveling are also identical. The light protection hood is again only available as an accessory for the BP95E models with self-calibration.

prices, specifications and availability

All four OLED monitors are expected to be available from the summer. At a press event, LG spoke of a price range between 3,000 and 4,000 euros (RRP), which suggests that not all details have been determined months before the market launch. Further key data and product images apart from the 32EP950, which, according to a media report, should appear for 3,999 euros according to a media report, are still missing.

Update 07/27/2021 2:40 pm
