Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Box: eGPU housing soon also with GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

The external graphics card housing series Aorus Gaming Box is getting a new addition from Gigabyte. In addition to the two versions with GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 presented at the end of last year, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will also be offered in the unchanged housing in the future. The typical AiO cooling also remains unchanged.

Thunderbolt 3 is also used in the new variant to transfer data to the notebook, mini or desktop PC. In addition, a notebook can be charged with up to 100 watts at the same time. There are also no innovations in the new release with regard to the other connections. The graphics card works with the typical clock rates of up to 1,665 MHz and 9,500 MHz for the 12 GB GDDR6X-VRAM.

In addition to the Thunderbolt 3 port for communication with the connected system, a gigabit LAN port for connecting to the network and three USB type A are still installed. Three DisplayPorts and two HDMI outputs can be used as video outputs via the built-in graphics card, whereby a maximum of four screens can be controlled at the same time.

The changes are minor apart from the desktop graphics card installed inside. The housing takes up 300 × 140 × 173 mm (L × W × H) and now weighs around 3.9 kg, around 100 grams more, with the graphics card, power supply unit (550 W) and compact water cooling. The all-in-one cooling system Aorus Waterforce uses a 240 mm aluminum radiator and two 120 mm fans. In addition to the GPU, the system should also effectively cool all other core components such as memory and the voltage converters of the graphics card and thus enable more stable operation and a longer service life.

At what price Gigabyte plans to bring the external graphics card housing on the market, the manufacturer is still in the dark. There is also no information on availability. For the slightly slower eGPU housing with GeForce RTX 3080, prospective buyers currently have to calculate a price of around 1,686 euros with immediate delivery.
