Weekly review and outlook: Benchmarks on Windows 11 and Nintendo's Switch OLED

In last week's tests, Windows 11 was once again the most popular, while Nintendo's announcement of the Switch OLED for October 2021 was by far the most widely read in the news. The Dreamcast One PC and the ray tracing update for Doom Eternal are left behind.

After the surprising announcement of Windows 11, Microsoft made a preliminary version (“Insider Preview”) available to interested testers to try out before the final version of Windows 11 is expected to appear at the beginning of November and will be available as an update for Windows 10. ComputerBase investigates the question of whether gamers can go straight to the new Windows or should wait with the switch in its first benchmarks with AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce in ten games and two resolutions. Even the Insider Preview of Windows 11 runs well in games and about as fast as Windows 10, but gamers have to pay attention to the correct drivers, because the integrated driver is the best choice with AMD, while with Nvidia the last official driver directly from the manufacturer .

In second place is the test of the Corsair MP600 Core with 2 TB, a cheapest SSD with PCIe 4.0. Instead of TLC-NAND, cheaper QLC-NAND is used. For a lower price, buyers have to accept compromises in performance compared to the flagships among the PCIe 4.0 SSDs, especially the glaring weakness when writing beyond the SLC cache, even the Corsair MP600 Core cannot hide despite the otherwise good performance impression.

The benchmarks for Doom Eternal, which with Update 6 now supports ray tracing and DLSS, land in third place.

After months of rumors, a performance expected at E3 and multiple cancellations by Nintendo, a new Switch was presented. The Switch OLED does not rely on improved performance values, but on an OLED display that has grown from 6.2 to 7 inches with thinner edges, a new table mode, a LAN connection in the dock and 64 GB of internal memory. It will go on sale in Germany on October 8, the price is expected to be between 350 and 400 euros.
