The X570S refresh lets motherboard manufacturers publish extensive new editions for the AMD Ryzen 5000. MSI is planning at least eight, which are not just old boards with passive cooling despite the identical chipset, but have experienced other tweaks here and there.

X570S is X570 with new firmware

According to MSI, the X570S is an X570, whose power consumption AMD was able to reduce with new firmware, the chipset itself is the same. The designation X570S would not come from AMD, but was chosen by the OEMs to denote the quiet operation (“silent”) of the new boards.

The MPG series is to get improved VRMs, among other things, and many more adjustments have been made also made for smaller variants, some now equipped with 2.5 Gbit LAN and WiFi 6 – MSI does not want to reveal all of them today. At least one word about pricing MSI loses: The new boards are said to be around 20 US dollars more expensive than their direct predecessor.

X570S extends life by AM4

At the end of the day, the scope of mainboards is surprising, MSI currently only has eight X570 boards in German stores. It should indicate that the AM4 socket still has a long time to come. Such an extensive refresh just for the “old Ryzen 5000” would hardly be worthwhile, the already confirmed new B2 stepping as well as the upcoming Ryzen with additional L3 cache will keep the platform alive until well into 2022 and beyond.
