The Morial camp, which housed up to 20,000 third-world asylum seekers, was destroyed in a fire in September 2020.

Now, four Afghans identified as responsible have now been convicted by a Greek court to 10 years in prison each for arson, reports RT.

The lawyers had previously submitted a request that three of the Afghans be tried by a juvenile court because they were under 18 at the time of the fire, but this was rejected by the judge.

The Afghans have already appealed the verdict, but it has no suspensive effect and the convicts will be immediately imprisoned.

The line of defense is that the Afghans had been wrongly designated by a witness and that the verdict is not based on evidence.
