Probably by mistake, the Noctua NH-P1 passive CPU cooler was offered for sale at a US dealer before it was presented and thus revealed. The offer, which has since been taken offline again, revealed some details and the expected price.

The offer at Newegg discovered by FanlessTech can still be accessed via the Google web cache. The Noctua NH-P1 was offered there for $ 100.

The image of the cooler reveals that little has changed in the basic design of the prototype with six heat pipes that was shown two years ago. However, the lamella tower has far more ventilation holes. The lamellas run perpendicular to the mainboard and are tapered to create space for components, directly on the contact plate. The design is somewhat reminiscent of the Scythe Orochi from ancient times. According to the description in the shop, the design should in any case not collide with RAM on current AM4 motherboards for AMD or the Intel counterpart LGA1200/115x. The upper PCIe slot on most ATX and Micro-ATX boards also remains free.

The mounting system is described as “SecuFirm2 +”, which indicates a revised version of the previous multi-socket mounting system SecuFirm2. The compatibility should include the following sockets:

  • AMD: AM4, AM3 (+), AM2 (+), FM2 (+), FM1
  • Intel: LGA115x (LGA1150, LGA1151, LGA1155, LGA1156), LGA1200, LGA20xx (LGA2066, LGA2011-0, LGA2011-3)

According to the description text, the NH-P1 is recommended for CPUs with low to moderate heat dissipation, the models Intel 9900K, 9700K and AMD Ryzen 2700X, 3950X, 3700X and 3400G being named as examples. The information is not quite as consistent, because the 9900K in particular can be quite a hot head. But CPU compatibility lists should provide clarity for the manufacturer. Noctua does not give a general TDP recommendation.

In addition to pure passive operation, the NH-P1 can optionally be equipped with a 120 mm fan for better cooling performance. The Noctua NF-A12x25 LS-PWM is cited as a possible fan as an example. With thermal grease of the type NT-H2 and a six-year guarantee, the NH-P1 is expected to reach retailers at a date not yet known this year. The appearance at Newegg could mean an early market launch.
