The accused man is a 31-year-old Swede and the suspicions include a aggravated rape that occurred at the outdoor area Skavlöten in Täby during the summer of 2020 and a aggravated sexual assault that occurred at Lake Ekoln in Uppsala during the summer of 2018. .
The man persecuted women on both occasions who were on their way from bathing places. The police secured DNA traces from the perpetrator after both incidents.
The accused man, who is a resident of Norrtälje municipality, became a suspect only after his wife called the police and tipped off about him, whereupon the man could then be arrested. .
Shortly after the arrest, investigators were informed by the National Forensic Center that his DNA matched the traces secured during the crime scene investigations. The man has been in custody since January 26 and during the investigation, new suspicions have arisen.
In addition to the events in Täby and Uppsala, the man is charged with another six assaults of women that occurred in 2018 in various places in northern Stockholm and one case. which occurred in 2019 in Dalarna. The headings for the seven additional incidents are one case of assault and sexual harassment and six cases of sexual harassment.
The public has contributed approximately 200 tips during the course of the investigation.
