Domestic. The police authority has decided to introduce electric shock weapons. Now it's time for training in use, and the plan is for it to take place in the police's equipment belt next year.

The weapon can be used in intervention situations where violence or threats of violence are imminent, for example when someone threatens with a stabbing weapon, according to the authority.
According to the police, the purpose is for the electric shock weapon to reduce damage to police and perpetrators, and act as a complement to other equipment.
– The perpetrator does not have to fall but finds it difficult to move. The effect lasts as long as you transfer power, usually for five seconds, says Anders Hall, development manager at the police.
Six years ago, the police produced a report that analyzed the use of firearms and gave suggestions for measures. The introduction of electric shock weapons was proposed to reduce the use of service weapons. 750 police officers were trained to use the weapon during a trial operation in 2018. The attempt has since been evaluated through surveys and in-depth interviews with users.
– Police officers who participated in the project feel that the violence has decreased. You also experience a higher degree of security and feel less stress in threatening situations.
As the plan looks, police officers will have access to the electric shock weapon in 2022. This mainly applies to police officers in external service.
