On the Apple HomePod and HomePod mini, the music streaming service Deezer can now be set as the standard app and used via Siri voice control. The loudspeakers were initially designed primarily for Apple Music, but music from other sources could be brought wirelessly to the loudspeakers using AirPlay.

Still absent at the start of the first HomePod, music services other than Apple Music can now be brought to the speakers via an API and controlled using Siri. Deezer can now be set as the standard app so that the catalog with 73 million titles can be accessed without an extended voice command.

Deezer without a longer voice command

If Deezer has been saved as the standard app for music in the Home app in the Media area of the Home Settings and there in the user profile for the HomePod, the personal soundtrack function “Flow” can be used with the voice command “Hey Siri, play mine Activate Flow ”. The need to add “… to Deezer” to the end of a voice command is no longer necessary, but is retained if, for example, Apple Music is set as the default app.

Deezer HiFi also works

Voice control via Siri is available to all users of a paid Deezer subscription with iOS 14.3 and higher and the latest software on the HomePod. To use Deezer on the Apple HomePod or HomePod mini, you have to start the Deezer app and connect your own account to the corresponding speaker in the settings. With a subscription for “Deezer HiFi” you can also play losslessly compressed tracks and with this subscription you can access the HiFi Gold playlists and even remastered albums from the “HiFi Room”.

No podcasts, audio books or radio

Deezer for HomePod and HomePod mini is now available in Australia, Germany, France, UK, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Spain, and the US available. Podcast, audiobook or live radio content is not supported.
