With the new pricing, the base price remains unchanged at 7.99 euros, the standard access, on the other hand, has increased from 11.99 euros to 12.99 euros, and the premium tariff by as much as 2 euros to 17.99 euros. The scope of services should remain the same. The new pricing is effective immediately for new customers, existing customers will be informed by Netflix 30 days before the actual increase, as has been the case in recent years. According to the company, this will happen in the next few months. However, if you change tariffs, the new prices apply immediately.

After 2015, 2017 and 2019, this represents the fourth price increase in recent years, with which Netflix seems to increase prices every two years. Whether the current increase has to do with the higher frequency of specially produced content cannot be ruled out. Just two days ago, Netflix announced a content offensive: This year, despite the tense situation worldwide, over 70 films will premiere on the service, at least one every week.

Already more expensive in other countries

In the US, on the other hand, Netflix already became more expensive in October last year. Only in December 2020 did the direct competitor Disney + also announce that it would increase its fees: For example, a subscription in Germany is to increase from 6.99 euros to 8.99 euros from February 23, but then the additional content hub ” Disney Star ”are part of the offer, which also offers content for the adult audience. This is supposed to almost double the content offered by Disney +.

Netflix informed existing customers today that their monthly fee will be reduced from June 6, 2021 will change the level that has been in effect for new customers since February. The promised “warning time” of at least 30 days was thus met exactly.
