The U.s. army has conducted tests with autonomous vehicles in a military convoy. The software and hardware from Lockheed Martin should make it possible to that the military vehicles without a driver by normal traffic driving.

The so-called autonomous mobility appliqué system that Lockheed Martin has developed consists of a module that on various military vehicles can be placed. The amas-system makes use of lidar-lasers and very accurate gps receivers to record the position of the vehicle to determine and to overcome obstacles to be able to recognize.

During a test of the U.s. army, drove a number of vehicles with the amas system without a driver in a military convoy through an area with normal traffic situations. According to Lockheed Martin would be the vehicles under other correctly respond to complex intersections, oncoming traffic and pedestrians.

The amas-system is tested on M915 trucks and pls vehicles, but Lockheed Martin claims that also other military vehicles be autonomous can be controlled. With systems such as the amas, the Us army term vulnerable positions as drivers in the cab of a vehicle can be replaced by digital systems.
