Western Digitals HGST, the former opslagdivisie of Hitachi, has a solid state drive developed a sas-1200 interface. That port is twice as fast as the sas-600 interface that allows server-ssds normally are equipped.
The drives with a sas-1200 interface will be in three versions available, each with a specific use in server environments. Hitachi makes the sas-1200 interface, in cooperation with LSI. The sas-1200 interface is twice as fast as the regular sas-600 port, but is backwards compatible with that standard. The first samples of the new Ultrastars are a limited number of customers for test provided. Only in June will the ssds be sold; a version with encryption should also be available.
