Intel has new Xeon server processors officially announced. The Xeon E3 processors get Haswell cores, while the Xeon E5 and E7 cpu’s Ivy Bridge-E cores. Intel made nothing known about clock frequencies and order.

The new Xeons come, just as the current Xeons, in three different families: the E3, E5 and E7. About the processors was leaked earlier information. So would the Xeon E7 on up to 15 cores and 30 threads go. Intel still has no information about cores and the order released, but it has other specifications of the processors can confirm.

The Xeon E3 v3 family will be in any case a processor with a tdp of 13 watts. The processor would have a lower fuel consumption than the current Xeons. That, in turn, leads to a better performance-per-watt ratio. Intel wants to be the E3-1200 v3 series this year to sell. About the Xeon E5 v2 series, Intel confirmed that the processors in the third quarter of 2013 and be released, as already suspected. Focus Intel’s focus is mainly on security, with built-in features such as Secure Key and OS Guard. The top models in the Xeon family, called E7 v2, coming in the fourth quarter of 2013 and will be a maximum of 12 terabytes of memory spread across 8 sockets, support.

In addition to the new Xeon cpus introduced the Intel new Atom processors for data centers. The Atom S1200 series, it was in december 2012 announced, but there is now a brother, in the form of the Atom S12x9 series. The new Atoms for storage systems include hardware-based raid acceleration, and native dual-casting, which allows data to two memory locations at the same time, can be written to. The Atom S12x9-series is already found in the storage of, among other MacroSAN Accusys, Qsan and Qnap.

Intel continues in 2013, new Atom chips for servers release. In the second half of the year brings Intel a Atom under the code name Avoton. This 22nm chip, which in June 2012 was announced, has a built-in ethernet controller, and would be compared to previous Atoms of a better performance-per-watt ratio. Another Atom, which is intended for entry – level and mid-range routers, switches and security equipment, by Intel Rangeley called. This soc stands for the second half of 2013 in the planning.
