Samsung has released an update for its smartphone Galaxy Note II, which enables the split-screen functionality is activated. This allows two apps next to each other on the screen can be used. The update comes over-the-air.

The update comes a week after the Note II in the Netherlands, is released. The update with the number N7100XXALJ1 is over-the-air spread, but can also online in its entirety to be downloaded: the whole firmware is packed 1GB, extracted take the firmware to 1.4 GB of hard drive space.

With the update is Google’s Chrome browser to the firmware added, but in addition, it is possible to have two apps next to or under each other to rotate the screen. The functionality is activated or deactivated by long pressing the Back button. Then comes to the side of the screen a tab that expands the apps shows that next to each other can be rotated.

The functionality is also on the tablet Note 10.1, but was then often not to be working smoothly. On the Note II works with the function well, as evidenced by findings of Tweakers.net. Opening apps and switching between both apps works fast and well and there is no delay noticeable. Stronger still: via S Note Popup and Browser can there are even four apps on the screen simultaneously active without having the phone very slow.

That is probably partly due to the ram size of 2GB and the quad-core Exynos 4 Quad soc in the device. The Note II has a 5.5″screen with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels and has in the housing place for a stylus, Samsung S Pen calls. The stylus can include the top of the screen hoveren; Android supports hovering since Android 4.0. And it recognizes the screen, how hard the user press the screen.
