Samsung introduces the 5.8″-Galaxy Player

Samsung has its latest portable media player in the Galaxy line was announced. The Galaxy Player 5.8 has a lcd with a 5.8″diagonal and a resolution of 960×540 pixels, and a hefty battery, with a capacity of 2500mAh.

The announcement of the Galaxy Player 5.8 was made on Samsung’s Korean Samsungtomorrow blog. The design of the media player resembles that of the Galaxy S III smartphone, but the screen is with a diagonal of 5.8″ substantially larger. The resolution is 960×540 pixels and that is lower than the Galaxy S III, which has a screen with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The screen in the Player 5.8 is a traditional lcd, while Samsung for its phones in the line amoled screens used.

Samsung has the speakers on the Player 5.8 to the front placed, what it previously did with the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the Galaxy Note 10.1. Like those devices, turn the Player on Android Ice Cream Sandwich in combination with Samsung’s TouchWiz skin. The media player has a 2500mAh battery, support for wi-fi b/g/n and gps, and comes in a 16GB and a 32GB variant. There is also a micro-sd slot to the storage memory to fill.

The blog post makes no mention of a launch date and prices. That information is likely to be announced at the IFA-consumer electronics, on 29 August.
