Microsoft releases preview version of Office 2013, free

Microsoft has released a preview version of Office 2013 on internet. The software, which features a Metro-like appearance, puts the emphasis on Microsoft’s own cloud services: documents are by default in SkyDrive stored.

During a press event in San Francisco emphasized Microsoft ceo Steve Ballmer that in the new release of Office ‘the cloud’ plays a major role. In practice, this means that documents default to Microsoft’s storage service SkyDrive will be stored and that Microsoft has a lot of emphasis on the web versions of its Office products.

At the same time, the company has also a free preview version of its popular desktop office software released. The desktop version of Office 2013 comes with a appearance that is reminiscent of the Metro interface that Microsoft has made in Windows 8 and Windows Phone and is similar to the appearance of the new Visual Studio version.

New is that in Word, pdf documents can be opened and edited. Also, the position of a user in a document is remembered and synchronized across different Windows devices.

In addition, the desktop version of Office soon, as the subscription will be closed, and users with extra SkyDrive storage space. There are three package types; the amount of included applications vary by subscription. For users of the RT version of Windows that runs on ARM devices, is the software included for free.
