Google rolls currently a service that makes it possible for one’s voice during the call real-time translation into any other language. Real-time spraakvertaling between English and German works, other languages will be added.

This has Google executive director Eric Schmidt said during an interview with students in the program College Tour of the NTR that Friday night is broadcast on Nederland 3. “We will be launching nearly every week new things. There are a lot of new things to come.”

On the question of whether Google is working on a solution to the language barrier between two calling people who speak a different language to fix it, replied Schmidt that it is technically already possible. “That is now a part launched. It may already between German and English. Other languages will follow.”

Although Schmidt is no indication for when other languages will be supported, is the president convinced that real-time spraakvertaling via the phone, in the future, the most normal thing in the world. “In the future, you will be on your phone talking in your own language, while the other automatically in his or her own language.”

The technology of Google will be there if the company is, of course, play a major role. “We have the largest and most successful translator in the world, namely Google Translate for text to text translation. So if your text into voice, you have voice-to-voice translation.”
