LG smart tvs with webOS last year, not upgrade to the new version of the operating system. Only the 2015 line of devices is supplied with the updated operating system, which is faster to work with.

LG announced that webOS 2.0 in mid-december and then let know that the 2015 line of smart tvs with the new operating system is to be fitted. It is unclear, however, whether models of 2014 a upgrade can expect. That is not the case, let an LG spokesperson Tweakers know.

“We have webOS 2.0 on it to improve the speed focused,” says the spokesman. In combination with the previous generation of tv’s, the software would not experience where the Korean company aims for, so any speed improvement is partly the result seems to be the use of faster soc’s. “It is also not the usual smart-tv-platforms like smartphones such upgrades, but I expect that in the future this is going to come,” said the LG spokesman.

The first generation of webOS does not respond as fast, and experienced users. During demonstrations at CES seemed to webOS 2.0 smoother to work with, but if this is really the case, it should prove if the tv’s actually come on the market. One of the few new features of webOS 2.0 is a context menu.

Update, 14.35: LG Netherlands has let us know that the first version of webOS, though, still updates, and that the side effects in the area of security, stability, apps, and also speed can go. “It is not, however, an upgrade, with the speedups that webOS 2.0 will offer,” according to LG Netherlands.
