Interceptor Entertainment, the developer behind the Rise of the Triad reboot from 2013, the publisher and developer, 3D Realms acquired. 3D Realms, also known as Apogee Software, holds the rights to the old Duke Nukem games, and Shadow Warrior.
Frederik Schreiber, director of the Danish Interceptor Entertainment, made the news known via Twitter. The two studios are embroiled in a lawsuit with Gearbox Software over the rpg Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction. According to Gearbox, is that a new title in the Duke franchise, and Gearbox is the one who have the rights to in your hands. Gearbox is so now no more compared to two parties, but one. Monday keeps Schreiber a press conference about the acquisition. Compared to the Danish newspaper Børsen reports Mike Nielsen, the new ceo of 3D Realms, that he is “the legend of 3D Realms wants to preserve and strengthen.”
Apogee, or 3D Realms, continued in addition to the new company’s existence. After the sale of the rights went to 3D Realms, under the official company name Apogee Software, Ltd. A year later, in 2009, asked Apogee Ltd. to file for bankruptcy. Gearbox Software bought the rights to the Duke franchise of Apogee Ltd. and the company could continue to exist. The only rights that Apogee Ltd. itself kept, were, among others, that on Shadow Warrior and the Duke Nukem games before Duke Nukem Forever.
