Yahoo donates ten million dollars to the research project InMind of the American Carnegie Mellon University. The project has been established with the purpose of functionality as Apple’s Siri and Google Now to develop for mobile devices.

In addition to the amount that Yahoo has made available, the researchers will also have access to the technology and data of the internet company, reports Technology Review. The cooperation with the university is part of the efforts of Yahoo to the large quantities of data over which the company has to repay the user experience of its services to improve.

The researchers will also work closely with Yahoo. The focus is not only on pure scientific research and the development of new applications; within the project also have existing Yahoo services be improved and expanded. The students and the teachers of the university will be the services and applications that are within the project be extended and developed for testing.

Ron Brachman, head of Yahoo Labs, says that he expects the InMind project will also experiment with technology that apps allows a conversation to hold with a user. Brachman was also involved with the Pentagon project, CALO. The technology that was developed was the foundation for Siri. He states that while Siri is impressive, it still does not take into account the context in which questions are asked.
