Belgacom activates first vdsl2 vectoring range of 70Mbit/s

Belgacom has its first vdsl2 connections with ‘vectoring’technology activated. Customers in Mechelen can thus have a speed of 70Mbit/s to meet. By 2016, the upgrade of the entire vdsl2 network are ready.

Belgacom and network company Alcatel-Lucent started the upgrade of the vdsl2 network in Mechelen at the end of 2013 and both companies now report that the resulting speed of 70Mbit/s for customers in the Belgian city is within easy reach. Until now, the vdsl2 speed at Belgacom up to 50Mbit/s, but vectoring allows a higher speed over the existing copper lines as possible. When vectoring is the interference between two bundled koperkabels suppressed.

To of the higher speed to use, customers should have a new modem: the B-BOX3. Soon, the upgrade also in the places Herstal, Laeken, Roeselare and Bergen is activated, followed by a new series of cities from april 2014.

By 2016, the entire network is transferred. The higher speed over copper lines should be the long-term strategy of Belgacom to on fiber to move supplement. In new neighbourhoods, places Belgacom right fiber to houses; in existing regions, there is fiber up to the distribution boxes.
