After the Koran riots in Navestad Norrköping on April 14 and 17, 85 police officers on duty stated that they were hit by stones, bangers and other objects. Of these 85 police officers, 29 police officers have stated that they received some form of injury after, among other things, being hit by stones.

In addition to these police officers, 5 firefighters were also injured. They were injured by stones and shards of glass in connection with being attacked by a large mob who subjected them to stone throwing when they were on their way to put out fires in Navestad. This happened around 18.30 at the Ringdansen in Navestad on April 14.

– Similar to our previous prosecutions, our main evidence is extensive footage which we believe clearly shows how active the defendants were by, among other things, throwing rocks at police officers who were exposed to great danger through the defendants' reckless actions, says District Attorney Thomas Ramstedt, who is preliminary investigation manager.

Police: “Sad and distressed”

Police and prosecutors chose early on to prioritize investigations of young people who committed crimes in connection with the riots in Navestad.

– It is of the utmost importance that juvenile delinquency is investigated quickly. It sends signals to young people and society in general that it is reprehensible, regardless of age, to obstruct authorities in their exercise of authority and to not respect our democratic rules of the game. I was saddened and saddened when I saw how adults side by side with young people made it difficult for the blue light staff to maintain order and put out fires, says Police Commissioner Jan Staaf.
