Domestic. The Sweden Democrats were banned from advertising in the Stockholm subway before the EU elections. But after Aftonbladet asked questions, the region suddenly changed its mind and allowed the ads.

Ahead of the 2022 parliamentary elections, entire subway cars in Stockholm were covered with SD logos. p>

The campaign took a further turn when Riksdag member Tobias Andersson (SD) posted on Twitter a picture from an SD-decorated train with the comment: “Welcome to the return migration train. You hold a one-way ticket. Next stop, Kabul!”

” This is so undignified and racist,” commented the then center leader Annie Lööf, among others.

SD's plans for a similar campaign before the elections to the European Parliament were stopped by the supplier Clear Channel, writes Aftonbladet. This is with reference to a decision made in the Stockholm region's traffic committee in January when S, MP, V and C agreed to ban advertising for online casinos, fossil fuels and fossil-powered products in public transport. The parties also want to limit political advertising with fully foiled vehicles, thus specifically the type of advertising that SD ran in 2022.

These new rules will only start in the election year 2026. Despite this, SD's plans were thus stopped by Clear Channel.< /p>

It was referred to that “earlier advertising created dangerous situations”. This was the case, for example, in 2015, when SD's advertisements at the Östermalmstorg subway station were torn down by left-wing extremists who put themselves in life-threatening situations to be able to do this.

However, the region's traffic administration changed its mind about the decision after Aftonbladet contacted with questions.

– These guidelines were adjusted last week, on April 17, and the Sweden Democrats booked and bought areas in December and then these new guidelines did not exist. Therefore, their purchase is not covered by the new guidelines, says Claes Keisu, press communicator at the traffic administration, to Aftonbladet.

The party will therefore have its advertising in the subway as planned.
