On Wednesday evening, masked people attacked the left-wing extremist Expo's “anti-fascist meeting” in Gubbängen, with defense spray and a smoke bomb. AFA founder Mathias Wåg was beaten.

Expo has – without presenting any evidence for the claim – claimed that it was “Nazis” who were behind it all. In fact, the attackers were masked and disappeared from the scene before the police arrived.

A number of politicians have condemned the incident as a “threat to democracy”.

Late on Wednesday evening, Jimmie Åkesson also joined a statement about the incident.

“Politically motivated violence is terrible, in all its forms, and does not belong in Sweden”, he writes on X and continues:

“Me and many others in my party have direct experience of political persecution, threats and violence. Such things must be fought and pushed back with force, regardless of whether it is left-wing or right-wing extremism or religiously motivated political fanaticism.”

According to Åkesson, “all democratic forces” now “stand in full agreement against all kinds of politically motivated violence”.
