Domestic. The government is now boasting that it has ensured that the left-wing bureaucrat Mikael Ribbenvik got a new top job as deputy head of the EU's asylum agency.

Mikael Ribbenvik drew attention yesterday when he accused the Sweden Democrats of being behind the fact that he had to quit as director general of the Migration Agency last year.

But as compensation, he has now received a new top post – as deputy head of the EU's asylum agency EUAA.

Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) writes on X that the government “has worked hard for his candidacy”.< /p>

She also notes that “EUAA's role will become increasingly important in the future”. This is not least in the implementation of the EU's immigration pact with forced distribution of asylum seekers, a pact that the Swedish government played a key role in negotiating.

Mikael Ribbenvik was personally responsible for a sharp increase in asylum immigration to Sweden. In 2012, for example, he decided, then as head of law at the Migration Agency, that all Syrians who came to Sweden illegally would automatically receive a permanent residence permit. This individual decision led to Sweden becoming one of the main targets for Syrians seeking their happiness in Europe.

The new mission upsets many on the right, and Maria Malmer Stenergard's post has received hundreds of negative responses.

Kent Ekeroth (SD), for example, calls the government's behavior “senseless”.

Alternative for Sweden's party leader Gustav Kasselstrand describes it as Ribbenvik – rather than being “fired” from the Migration Agency – has been promoted.
