ITA Airways, the national airline born from the ashes of Alitalia, has announced that starting this summer it will exploit the satellites to communicate with the control towers. This is particularly important news, because the the Italian company is not only; the first full service in Europe to adopt this system, but it will be able to; in this way drastically reduce delays and guarantee a containment of pollutants during the flight.
This; is made possible by Iris, data link technology developed by ESA and Inmarsatwhich "allows aircraft to fly more efficient routes. fuel efficient by providing digital satellite communications to replace VHF data links, which have nearly reached capacity limit; due to the congested state of the airspace”.

The new Airbus A320neo and A330neo from ITA Airways will integrate SB-S technology (SwiftBroadband-Safety) system by Inmarsat on which the Iris system is based, an update of the Classic Aero platform currently considered the most advanced in the world. advanced and used solution for aircraft voice and data communications.
