– There is a dramatic increase in people who are in need of our help, says Åsa Paborn, director of the Stockholm City Mission.

Even the need for security guards has appeared because the mission now receives “new groups” and the safety of the staff is threatened.

Since the new meeting place was opened two months ago, 900 people have been able to show up a day with an urgent need for warmth and food, according to SVT. The city mission had not counted on that, but rather around 100 people a day.

– We see young adults, families with children and pensioners who have fallen into poverty and now come to us. We cannot cope with this on our own, but are now asking the city of Stockholm for help, says Åsa Paborn to SVT.

Pensioners in particular are a new group, who cannot cope even though they have a pension.

– They simply cannot make enough money, now that everything has become so much more expensive.
