Select Xbox Insiders can already test the revised dashboard for the Xbox Series X|S (test) planned for 2023. The user interface (UX) of the two game consoles will receive a reduced redesign, which will be much less cluttered in the future and will focus on larger tiles.

Insiders test the new Xbox dashboard

Now that Microsoft has started rolling out the new dashboard to select Xbox Insiders as part of a test phase in the Alpha Skip Ahead ring, The Verge editor Tom Warren has now taken a first look at the user interface redesign and delivers with his video the corresponding impressions of the new home GUI of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

The new design is strongly reminiscent of the Xbox TV app, so the start page has a new search function, which in future can also list results for the game console settings.

The new “Jump Back” list below the large tiles shows, among other things, the most recently accessed games. Overall, the new dashboard now looks much tidier and clearer than the current generation of the GUI.

We also know we can always be listening and learning how we can do better here while keeping your experience fast and familiar.

With that, we're kicking off a multi-month series of experiments to learn how to create a more personalized home screen experience and address some of the top trends and fan requests.

Xbox Game Pass is (too) much in focus

However, the author criticized the very pronounced focus on Xbox Game Pass during his test, because despite the improvements, the new home area “is starting to feel like a huge Xbox Game Pass advertisement,” continues Tom Warren.

The new Xbox dashboard should only be rolled out to the broad masses of players “in the course of 2023” and therefore has “months of testing” ahead of it. Ultimately, the aim of the new interface is to “interlock Xbox, Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming even better” in the GUI.

Because it is one A/B test is in the Alpha Skip Ahead Ring, only select Xbox Insiders can participate in the test.
