Besides the Sony LinkBuds S in 'Earth Blue', which are made from recycled plastic water bottles, Sony has launched the LinkBuds series and flagship WF-1000XM4 in-ear headphones (Test) announced a software update that will enable multipoint for Sony's current in-ear generation.

Multipoint update coming in November

The multipoint Bluetooth connection makes it possible for two devices to be connected to the headphones at the same time in order to switch seamlessly between them. For example, if a series is currently playing on the tablet, but a call comes in on the smartphone, headphones with multipoint in this case switch seamlessly to the smartphone to be able to answer the call. Sony has announced that the firmware update for the LinkBuds series, namely the LinkBuds (review) and LinkBuds S (review), will be distributed in November. With the WF-1000XM4, which has been on the market for more than a year, Sony speaks of the availability of the software update in “this winter”. In order to use multipoint after release, users will need to update the firmware of the in-ear headphones via Sony's Headphones Connect app.

LinkBuds S made of plastic bottles

With the LinkBuds S “Earth Blue”, Sony has also introduced a new variant of the lightweight ANC in-ear headphones, in which parts of the headphone housing and the charging case are made from recycled plastic water bottles. The use of the granulate obtained from the plastic bottles results in a marble pattern on the surface during manufacture. In addition, US$2 from the retail price of every Sony LinkBuds S model will be donated to marine conservation activities at Conservation International (CI), an international NGO working in 70 countries since 1987. Each purchase protects nearly 58,824 square meters of ocean, according to Conservation International calculations, since the average cost of the resources needed to protect one square kilometer of ocean is $34. Sony has set itself the goal of reducing the company's environmental impact to zero by 2050 with its long-term environmental plan “Road to Zero”.
