On October 28, 2022 at 6:00 a.m. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be the next installment in the popular first-person shooter series. The title was presented in June as part of the Summer Game Fest 2022. Two special features: The game has been available on Steam for a long time and costs at least 70 euros.

Pre-orderers may shoot earlier

Those who pre-order the digital version can download Modern Warfare 2 as early as October 26 at 7 p.m. to be able to play in time for the launch. The campaign is even available to that group of buyers starting tomorrow, October 20 at 7 p.m.; the preload starts this evening. In the single player portion, bonuses can be earned for the multiplayer battles before the start of the multiplayer modes, including four operators, a weapon and double XP tokens.

A first preview of the system requirements was given a month ago for the open beta, now publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward are following up with the final specifications. The minimum requirements are a little lower: Instead of an AMD Ryzen 5 1600X and an Intel Core i5-3570, a Ryzen 3 1200 or a Core i5-2500K will be sufficient to play the new Call of Duty on October 28th. In addition, the minimum video memory requirement has been halved to 2 GB VRAM, while at least an AMD Radeon RX 470 or an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 graphics card is still required.

Final System Requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Minimum Recommended

The “Competitive” and “Ultra 4K” categories are completely new. The former configuration is supposed to ensure “high” refresh rates beyond 60 FPS in the standard resolution of 1,920 × 1,080 pixels, while the latter configuration is intended for the eponymous resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels at also more than 60 FPS. Not surprisingly, a Radeon RX 6800 XT and a GeForce RTX 3080 high-end graphics accelerator are required, with 10 GB of video memory also being mandatory.

Variable memory requirements and 500 options

Speaking of storage, Call of Duty has recently been known to be quite wasteful with SSD storage space for game files and textures. It doesn't necessarily get any better with Modern Warfare 2. In principle, 72 GB is sufficient, but with higher resolution textures it becomes 104 GB. And with optional UHD textures, the requirement increases to up to 136 GB of storage space. Activision also explicitly points out that the information relates to the release version of the game. Changes are possible over time – and therefore probable. It can therefore be assumed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will take up even more storage space over time.

Although Activision presents a new trailer addressed to PC players; but there is no official information on special graphics features such as ray tracing, DLSS or FSR. However, the open beta game settings showed options for DLSS and FSR 1.0 – so it's likely that at least alternative anti-aliasing modes have found their way into the first-person shooter. Apart from that, there are said to be over 500 customizable graphics settings.
