LG Display is planning to start producing medium-sized OLED panels for monitors soon. A 27-inch panel will start off with a 32-inch display expected later in the year. Previously, the parent company LG had to buy these sizes externally.
According to a report from South Korea, LG Display is planning series production of 27-inch OLED panels from the end of October. A company spokesman had previously promised a new OLED panel by the end of the year that would be larger than 20 inches but smaller than 30 inches.
The website OLED-Info writes that it is a WOLED (white OLED) panel intended for gaming monitors and small TVs. The first customer will be the parent company LG itself, which is to present a first product on its basis in the first quarter of 2023. Towards the end of the year, production of a 32-inch OLED panel will also start at LG Display. Furthermore, the production volume of 42-inch OLED panels will be increased.

In the future, LG will also be able to equip its own monitors with OLED panels from its own company. For its first OLED monitors, the LG UltraFine 27EP950 and LG UltraFine 32EP950, the company still had to buy display panels from the manufacturer JOLED. However, according to media reports, this supplier is threatened with closure due to financial problems.
But the currently weak TV business could also be a reason why LG Display is increasingly focusing on the production of OLED -Displays of the smaller variety are concentrated.
Gaming monitors with OLED are gaining momentum
While OLED panels have been used in televisions for many years, the spread in monitors is still very limited. The competitor Samsung Display is addressing the area of wide gaming monitors with its 34-inch QD-OLED panel in 21:9 format. The first customers are the Dell Alienware AW3423DW (test), the MSI MEG 342C and the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8. LG, on the other hand, is apparently dedicated to the classic 16:9 format.
