Differences iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro

When we look at the differences between the iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro, we can divide it into six topics. In all these areas different models differ the most from each other. There are some other minor points where the models differ, but for the sake of overview we focus on the most important points here

  • Screen
  • Design
  • Camera
  • Chip and performance
  • Battery
  • Prices

#1 iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro screen

Although the models do not differ from each other in terms of screen sizes, there is an important difference in the display. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are the only models with the new Dynamic Island. This replaces the notch and displays all kinds of useful information and notifications. It's a new way to use your iPhone and is one of the most important new features in the iPhone 14 Pro. In addition, the iPhone 14 Pro models have an always-on screen. This means that the display is always on, so you can always read the time, see notifications and view widgets when your iPhone is on the table or on your desk, for example. With the iPhone 14 (Plus) you will still find a notch at the top (the same as in the iPhone 13 models) and the screen is simply off when you lock the device.

Other differences in the screen are the ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate on the Pro models and the higher brightness.

#2 Design iPhone 14 differences

In terms of design with the iPhone 14, there are again differences this year. First of all, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have an aluminum housing, while the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have stainless steel. That gives the Pro models a somewhat more luxurious look. The back is also different: where this is shiny glass in the standard models, it is frosted glass in the Pro models. Also important to take into account is that the dimensions and weight also differ somewhat. The housing of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) is slightly higher than the models with the same screen size. The Pro models are also a bit thicker and heavier. The latter is due to the stainless steel edge, which is a lot heavier than aluminum.

There are also differences in colors: the iPhone 14 (Plus) comes in five lighter colors, while the iPhone 14 Pro models come in four standard colors. It just depends on what you prefer. If you prefer something lighter, you might have to go with the regular models in blue, light purple or starlight. If you want a darker or tighter color, the space black or deep purple of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) might be something for you.

#3 Camera iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro: the biggest differences

In the camera of the iPhone 14 models we find perhaps the biggest differences. First of all, on the iPhone 14 Pro models, we find three lenses on the back, namely the wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and the telephoto lens. The iPhone 14 (Plus) lacks the telephoto lens for extra zooming. With the iPhone 14 Pro you can zoom in more easily and take better quality photos up close. Speaking of close-up: the macro mode is also only found on the Pro models, which is a completely different way of shooting.

In all iPhone 14 models, we'll find new parts that improve low-light photography, but the iPhone 14 Pro models are the only ones with a 48-megapixel wide-angle lens. This produces significantly better photos, so that you can crop without loss of quality. The lens captures much more of the environment with much more detail, so photographers can handle the iPhone 14 Pro much better. The standard iPhone 14 models still take very good photos, too, but the Pro models take it up a notch. Also keep in mind that the Pro models are the only ones with the LiDAR scanner. This allows you to take portrait photos in the dark and make better use of certain AR functions.

On the front, we find the same improved 12-megapixel front camera with autofocus in all iPhone 14 models. All models also have support for the new Action Mode, which allows you to shoot action-packed videos without a jerky image. And speaking of jerky images: in photos, only the iPhone 14 Pro models have second-generation optical image stabilization.

All about the camera of the iPhone 14 (Pro)

Almost everyone thinks the camera is one of the most important parts of the iPhone. How good is the camera of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro? You can read that here.

#4 Chip and performance: extra power for the Pro

The iPhone 14 Pro models have a newer more powerful A16 chip. This mainly provides extra options for the camera, so that you will not notice much of it in daily use (apart from the camera functions) compared to the A15 chip in the regular iPhone 14 models. The A16 chip is slightly more economical than its predecessor, but more about that later in the battery section. The iPhone 14 Pro models do have faster working memory, namely LPDDR5. This also provides better performance. All models have 6GB of available RAM.

The structure of the A16 and A15 chip is, incidentally, the same. Both models have a 6-core CPU with 2 performance and 4 efficiency cores, in addition to a 5-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. We don't think you should base your choice for the iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro on the chip it contains. We think it will also make little difference in the future in terms of support for new iOS versions and functions.

In terms of storage, you can choose from 128GB to 512GB with the iPhone 14 (Plus). With the Pro models, this goes from 128GB to 1TB. If you opt for an iPhone 14 Pro, we recommend that you upgrade to 256GB, especially if you take a lot of photos and videos.

In this article we list everything you need to know about the processors in the iPhone 14 series. A lot of predictions have already been made, but now it's official. Here's everything you need to know about the chips.

#5 Battery: all top

In terms of battery life, there are some individual differences between the iPhone 14 models. The rule of thumb is: the bigger the iPhone, the longer the battery life. As a result, the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max have the longest battery life. But it just depends on which aspect you look at. Apple distinguishes between three scenarios: video playback, video streaming and audio playback. On average, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has the longest battery life, but the iPhone 14 Plus scores slightly better with a lot of audio playback. The improvements in battery life are also due to the new more energy-efficient A16 chip.

#6 Pricing iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro: a big difference

Finally, the price is also an important aspect that you should consider in your buying decision. If you want to buy an iPhone 14, you can get the best price with the regular iPhone 14, because it is available from €1,019.-. The iPhone 14 Pro, on the other hand, is available from €1,329,-, which is more than €300,- extra. For that money you get a much better camera, a nicer and more advanced screen and a somewhat more luxurious appearance. Whether it's worth the money is very personal.

If you look at the larger models, we see the same price difference. The iPhone 14 Plus is available from £1,169, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max can be yours from £1,479. Here too the price difference is therefore more than €300,-, again for a better camera, better display and more luxurious appearance.

Agreements iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro

In terms of capabilities, all iPhone 14 models also have some similarities. You will find the new Crash Detection in all models, which can detect whether you have been involved in a car accident. The iPhone can then automatically call 112 for you. Both models also have support for SOS via satellite, although this only works in the US and Canada for the time being. The feature allows you to connect to a satellite if you are in a place where there is no normal mobile coverage while you are in an emergency.

Furthermore, all iPhone 14 devices have support for Face ID, they are equally water resistant, they have support for 5G and the image quality is generally the same. Whether you buy an iPhone 14 or an iPhone 14 Pro: you can do almost the same in both cases, with the exception of the aforementioned differences in terms of camera, display and more.

Conclusion iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro

The choice between the iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro is mainly based on screen, design and camera. Are you a fanatic hobby photographer and do you want to take the most beautiful photos with an iPhone, then you should go for the iPhone 14 Pro anyway. Even if you want to take advantage of the best screen and would like to try the new Dynamic Island, the iPhone 14 Pro is the device to choose. Not a fan of the shiny back? Then the iPhone 14 Pro might be more up your alley.

If you are just looking for a very good and fast iPhone for beautiful photos, then the regular iPhone 14 is also fine. If you want a larger model, but without the high price tag or the more advanced camera features, the iPhone 14 Plus is the device for you. The price will also play a role, because the standard iPhone 14 models are about €300 cheaper than the Pro versions. Whichever iPhone 14 you choose, you will in all cases get a top device that you will use for years to come.
