GoldenEye 007, developed by Rare – formerly Rareware – for the groundbreaking Nintendo 64 from 1997, is widely regarded as one of the milestones in video game history. To date, new editions have failed due to legal problems. The title is now available for Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox Game Pass.

After GoldenEye 25, a remake based on Unreal Engine 4, which was planned for 2022 to mark the 25th anniversary of the legendary first-person shooter, was discontinued in 2020 and was therefore never released, owners of a Nintendo Switch or Xbox of the last two generations can now now look forward to the spy classic via Nintendo Switch Online or the Microsoft Xbox Games Pass. Apparently, any open legal issues that had previously prevented a remake on the Xbox 360 and a Nintendo N64 Classic Mini have been resolved.

According to Microsoft, the stealth shooter developed by Rare has been “lovingly” reworked for the new game consoles and will be included in Xbox Game Pass “soon”.

The owners of the 30-game collection Rare Replay receive GoldenEye 007, which was praised for its successful mission design, among other things, on the Xbox Series X and Series S as well as the Xbox One for free.

GoldenEye 007 has been lovingly remastered to meet the demands of a modern gaming experience with new features while still retaining the style and action of the original.

Up to 4K in 16:9 and a stable framerate

The original has been updated with improved control options, a native 16:9 resolution up to 4K and a consistent refresh rate, as well as unlockable awards, so-called achievements.

Only on Switch with online multiplayer

Only for the Nintendo Switch was the title beyond that expanded with a multiplayer mode, which is not available in the Xbox version for the time being.

Committed to success of the original

Um Project 007, which was announced by IO Interactive at the end of 2020, has been pretty quiet for a while now.
