Razer Basilisk V3 Pro: All-rounder mouse scratches the 300 euro mark with accessories

With the Basilisk V3 Pro, Razer is giving the Basilisk V3 (test), which was released at the end of 2021, the previously missing wireless version. Technically, the mouse is a hybrid of said mouse, the Basilisk Ultimate (test) that it replaces, as well as the new Viper V2 Pro (test) and DeathAdder V3 Pro. But the price is what is most amazing.

Many Basilisk iterations later, Razer packs everything in one mouse

Razer's restocking of the Basilisk series started at the end of 2019 with the Basilisk Ultimate and the Basilisk X HyperSpeed (test) and at the beginning of 2020 with the Basilisk V2 (test), which are already very similar to Logitech's extremely popular all-round mouse G502 Hero ( Test) oriented. However, Razer only adopted the detachable, fast-rotating mouse wheel with the wired Basilisk V3 almost a year ago, while the wireless versions have had to do without the function so far. But now the new competitor to the G502 Lightspeed (test) is ready – with some more, but not all functions.

The Basilisk V3 Pro takes over the Pro suffix and a lot of the technology from the two most recently released Pro models, the Viper and DeathAdder, but not their design: instead of an input device that is as light as possible and fully optimized for performance in shooters, the new Basilisk is intended to be a front Functionality bursting multi-purpose tool – including RGB opulence. There are a total of 13 separately configurable LED areas, which already reveals that the weight cannot be low. At 112 grams, the Basilisk V3 Pro weighs around twice as much as the Viper V2 Pro and DeathAdder V3, but both have a four-way mouse wheel that can be released at the push of a button, an alternative Bluetooth wireless connection, five additional buttons and compatibility with an inductive one Charging system based on the Qi standard.

Qi charging puck and station are sold separately

The mouse, which offers a total of eleven buttons, can be charged in the classic way via the 180 cm long, flexibly wrapped USB-C to USB-A cable. As an alternative, however, Razer sells accessories that are available separately or in a bundle. The cover for the wireless adapter storage compartment on the underside can be exchanged for a module for inductive charging, as with the G502 Lightspeed. In contrast to Logitech's PowerPlay (test), in which the input device can be charged over the entire surface of the PowerPlay mouse pad using proprietary technology, Razer relies on the Qi standard with the Wireless Charging Puck.

On the one hand, this means that commercially available charging pads for smartphones or headphone cases are compatible, but on the other hand that charging across the board and thus wireless use without charging breaks is not possible. As a second alternative, Razer now offers the Mouse Dock Pro, a Qi charging station that integrates the Charging Puck Pro. The Basilisk Ultimate was already available in a bundle with a docking station, but at that time two metal contacts were used. The battery life of the Basilisk V3 Pro is around 90 hours, but the value presumably applies to deactivated RGB lighting.

Known pro technology works inside

Identical to the Viper and DeathAdder are the Razer-exclusive PixArt PAW-3950 sensor, third-generation opto-mechanical primary buttons that protect against unwanted double-clicks, and the sliding elements made of pure PTFE. In addition, the Basilisk V3 Pro can be paired with Razer's HyperPolling wireless dongle, sold separately, to increase the wireless USB polling rate to 4,000 hertz instead of 1,000 hertz via 2.4 GHz radio. However, the battery life drops to around 25 hours.

Razer also only knows the superlative when it comes to price

There is another parallel to the rest of the Pro lineup: a hefty price. The Basilisk V3 Pro alone, which is now available, has a recommended retail price of around 180 euros, which is unprecedented for a series-produced gaming mouse. In a bundle with the Wireless Charging Puck, which costs 25 euros individually, the costs amount to 194 euros and together with the Mouse Dock Pro, which costs 100 euros separately, the mouse even costs 243 euros. The HyperPolling Wireless Dongle, on the other hand, has an RRP of 35 euros, so users who want to enjoy all the functionality have to pay 278 euros, even in the cheapest case.

For comparison: Zaunkoenig's handmade M2K fingertip grip mouse (test) costs little more at 300 euros, while Roccat's Kone XP Air, the wireless version of the Kone XP (test), which is in competition with the Basilisk V3 Pro, includes a classic one Charging station costs 170 euros. The G502 Lightspeed is now available from around 80 euros, but rumor has it that it will soon have a successor.
