Apple releases a new generation of the entry-level iPad every year, with minor improvements. This usually involves a faster chip, improved display or a new camera. Although Apple often uses older parts for this model and therefore the iPad does not have the very latest of the latest, for many people this is a perfect iPad. Also in 2022 there will be a new entry-level iPad and that is already the tenth generation iPad. But when can you expect the release of this model? You may have to wait a little longer this year.
Release 10th generation iPad 2022 possibly later
In recent years, Apple has always announced the entry-level iPad during the iPhone event in September. The new model could then often be ordered the same day or shortly afterwards, with the first deliveries not much later. To give you an idea, these were the release dates of previous years of the entry-level iPads:
- iPad 2021: Announcement September 14, Release September 24
- iPad 2020: Announcement September 15, Release September 18
- iPad 2019: Announcement September 10, Release September 30
But this year for the release of the iPad 2022, that may be different and that has everything to do with the date of iPadOS 16. New iPhone –, Apple Watch and iPad models always come with the latest version of iOS, watchOS respectively. and iPad OS. But it looks like Apple will delay the release of iPadOS 16 by a month this year. That may also have consequences for when the new entry-level iPad comes out. Apple cannot release this model, on which iPadOS 16 is installed by default, if iPadOS 16 is not yet finished.

We therefore believe that the iPad 2022 release is scheduled for October 2022 due to the delay in iPadOS 16. A trusted source, who was the first to report the delay of iPadOS 16, among other things, also says that moving the date of iPadOS 16 brings the update closer to the release of the new iPads.
However, Apple can announce the new iPad 2022 during the event in September, with a release a month later. It often happens that new devices only become available at a later date, for various reasons. This happened, for example, with the Apple Watch Series 7, but also with the MacBook Air M2. Another option is that Apple chooses to reveal the iPad 2022 during a separate event in October, at the same time as the expected iPad Pro 2022. The iPad 2022 will be the tenth generation iPad and is the new entry-level model of 2022. A number of improvements are expected this year, including the switch to USB-C.
