New features in iPad Pro 2022

It has been over a year since Apple released the current iPad Pro. The iPad Pro 2021 appeared in April of that year, making it almost time for a new model. Apple usually releases a new model between every year and a year and a half, and according to the latest rumors, the iPad Pro 2022 will be released this fall. But what's new in the iPad Pro 2022? We show you what sources say will be added and improved in the iPad Pro this year.

  • M2 chip
  • Wireless charging
  • Reverse charging
  • Improved camera

#1 M2 chip coming to iPad Pro

Apple introduced the M2 chip this summer, as the first in the new MacBook Air 2022 and 13-inch MacBook Pro 2022. But the M2 chip is coming to many more Apple models, including the iPad Pro 2022. Currently, the iPad has Pro is an M1 chip, which in our opinion is still far from being used optimally. iPadOS 16 changes that with the arrival of Stage Manager, but by the time that update is out for everyone, the M2 chip in the iPad Pro 2022 will already be around the corner. The performance in the iPad Pro 2022 will probably be on the same level as the M2 MacBook Air, although we do wonder to what extent the iPad Pro will really benefit from that. Perhaps Apple will add additional advanced features to this model, which are not possible on the M1 version. In any case, the M2 chip is known for a better GPU, so the iPad Pro will perform better for graphics tasks.

#2 Wireless charging is coming to the iPad Pro

It seems very likely that wireless charging is finally making its way to the iPad. We have been using wireless charging on the iPhone since 2017 and the Apple Pencil actually already uses wireless charging. But charging the iPad itself without inserting a USB-C plug into the port is not yet possible. To enable wireless charging, Apple will have to change the design of the back. The aluminum back is not suitable for wireless charging. According to sources, Apple will use the Apple logo as a contact point where you have to attach the charger. It remains to be seen which type of wireless charging Apple will support. Standard Qi chargers are not really optimized for such large devices such as the iPad, which makes it more difficult to place the iPad properly on the charger. Apple's own MagSafe charger therefore seems more suitable. The advantage is that you keep the USB-C port free for accessories.

Apple is considering giving the new iPad Pro a glass Apple logo on the back, so you can use it via MagSafe can charge wirelessly.

#3 Possibly also with reverse wireless charging

As early as the summer of 2021, the rumor was about wireless charging, which also revealed an interesting detail: the ability to charge other devices wirelessly via the iPad. The iPad Pro would thus become a kind of wireless charging mat. You could then, for example, put your AirPods or even your iPhone on the back of the iPad to charge it. The idea of using your iPad as a charger for your iPhone is not new. It is already possible via a cable to charge your iPhone via the iPad.

You can already charge your iPhone via your iPad with a cable , but will it soon also be wireless?

#4 Improved camera: with three lenses?

The iPad Pro is the only iPad in the range with two rear camera lenses: a wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle. According to reliable sources, the iPad Pro 2022 will receive an improved camera system, although the details are still scarce. It would not surprise us, however, if the iPad Pro 2022 now also gets three camera lenses, which means that the telephoto lens is also added. We would also like to see the macro function added, especially if you want to take beautiful artistic photos and edit them directly on the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro gets improvements in the camera with every generation, so it seems certain that this year will be no different.

The current dual camera on the iPad Pro

The iPad Pro 2022 is expected to be announced in September or October 2022. It concerns again two models (12.9- and 11-inch), with the largest version only retaining a mini-LED screen. The iPad Pro 2022 will also be compatible with the Apple Pencil 2, the Magic Keyboard for iPad and more. Read everything we know about the iPad Pro 2022 in our round-up.
