Weekly review and outlook: The first Intel graphics card and games with 40 FPS

The focus of the week was testing Intel's first discrete graphics card from the Alchemist generation, the Arc A380. ComputerBase, together with two other German editors, imported the Gunnir Arc A380 Photon 6G and put it through its paces. All 3 magazines encountered numerous errors.

When all goes well, the Intel Arc A380 doesn't fare too badly. The performance is slightly below that of the Radeon RX 6400 and GeForce GTX 1650, especially since the energy efficiency is not very impressive, but the Arc A380 could actually work as a low-end product. But numerous bugs in the driver ensure that players will currently have little fun with an Arc A380. Crashes, graphics errors, bad frame pacing, a broken fan control and other problem areas were noticed in the test, so there is still a lot of work for Intel's driver team.

40 FPS plays well on a 120 Hz display

The 40 FPS mode of console games such as Horizon Forbidden West, Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which on a 120Hz display can offer a good compromise between better feel and graphics compared to the traditional 30fps and 60fps modes. However, 60Hz TVs cannot display 40fps modes correctly; it requires a 120Hz model to do this (one frame is then displayed three times before switching to the next).

The Resident Evil series is truly creepy

Resident Evil made it to first place in the reports. But this time it's not about a game, but the series on Netflix, which is not particularly well received by fans. The horror film isn't terribly scary, it's just horrible. Critics are softer, but overall reviews are sub-par.

Even more Intel Arc A380 next week

The Intel Arc A380 topic is still far from over on ComputerBase. In the course of the next week there will be another article dedicated to AMD Ryzen with the Intel graphics card and there will be a decent surprise in this regard. In addition, the topic of overclocking will also be covered and the Fan Stop of Gunnir's custom design will also have an appearance.
