These are the new emoji for your iPhone in 2022-2023

Sunday is World Emoji Day and that is a great opportunity to preview the new emoji coming to iOS and Android. Emojipedia has already made a list of the emoji under consideration. Usually it gives a good impression of what they will eventually look like on iOS, although each manufacturer can opt for a slightly different house style. The list for Emoji 15.0 this year consists of only 31 pieces to be considered. It's the smallest number ever proposed, according to Emojipedia. In September, it will be announced which ones have passed the Unicode Consortium's assessment and add enough value to express yourself. Most candidates are usually admitted.

If you are confronted with shocking news, you can now shake your head with the right emoji. It could also be used in earthquakes. And if you've done a job together, you can give someone a high-five with the new 'pushing hand' emoji where you can choose from different skin tones. You then combine the hands pushing to the right and left respectively. Other newcomers include hearts in light blue, gray and pink, a donkey, ginger, comb, fan, wing, flute, hyacinth, moose, goose and jellyfish. The latter can come in handy when you're gossiping about someone.

Two striking newcomers can be seen at the bottom of the image: it is now finally possible to use an emoji for wireless networks. Previously you were dependent on the antenna stripes emoji, but that makes less sense for WiFi. You can now use the Wi-Fi symbol instead. A lesser known one is Khanda, the symbol of the Sikh faith. And what kind of samba balls are those? They are maracas from South and Central America.

Last time the new emoji came out in iOS 15.4 so we may have to wait until iOS 16.4 this time too.
