The Volkswagen Tiguan received a restyling in 2020 and a new generation & egrave; expected between 2023 and 2024. There is no nothing strange, therefore, that spy photos of forklifts intent on carrying out the classic road tests have appeared. The new images, however, highlight an interesting element. In fact, the intercepted cars were electric . So, the next Tiguan will be & agrave; also offered with a fully electric powertrain? In reality, it is not; the first time a Tiguan forklift equipped with an electric powertrain is intercepted on the road. All this, however, appears very curious.
The SUV, today, is; marketed with unit & agrave; traditional and Plug-in and the brand has never made any mention of wanting to propose an electric Tiguan. We also know that Volkswagen is pursuing an ambitious electrification strategy that foresees the launch of an increasing number of 100% electric models in the coming years. However, we also know that all the new battery-powered models that the German manufacturer plans to launch in the future will rely on a dedicated platform for electric cars.
So, it might seem strange that the brand intends to do something different with the Tiguan which should continue to use the MQB platform since it will be; still proposed with unit & agrave; endothermic. However, this apparently anomalous choice could really allow Volkswagen to be able to offer the SUV with different types of engines, from the traditional ones to the 100% electric ones.
Unless they are used forklifts to test electric powertrains intended for other cars. It would not be strange for a car manufacturer to use models that are already in use. existing to experiment with new technical solutions to be adopted elsewhere. What the spy photos show is, therefore, curious. Surely over the next few months we will understand; better what the German brand intends to do with the next generation of the Tiguan.
