Streacom DA6 & DA6 XL: Vertical housing becomes flexible with tubular frames

Streacom interprets a “tower housing” with a square base in a different way. The DA6, which is at home in the SFF segment, is open, extremely flexible thanks to its modular concept and stands out with a frame made of tubes. This makes it more reminiscent of a futuristic piece of furniture than a “gaming PC”.

The DA6 basically consists of only two steel tubes that form the frame of the housing, as well as two “floors” on top and bottom. In order to be able to hide cables, the connections of the Mini-ITX mainboard point downwards. The use of the remaining space depends on the ideas of the user.

Flexible mounts

As with earlier Streacom housings, further components are attached via sliding brackets, which can be moved here on the tube frame. They accommodate the power supply in ATX or SFX form factor, hard drives or two 120 or 140 mm fans. Alternatively, radiators of these sizes can be mounted. But even without additional ventilation, Streacom sees the chassis as well positioned to keep high-performance components at the right temperature. This aspect is gaining in importance: Upcoming GPUs with a TDP of 450 watts and more can often no longer properly cope with cases with conventional ventilation concepts.

The only real size limit in the DA6 is for the graphics card: it can only be 323 millimeters long. If more space is required, Streacom offers the DA6 in an XL version. It is higher and offers more leeway on this point. With an optionally available riser cable, the DA6 also places the graphics card on the side. Since the bracket used for this can be moved, centered alignment is permitted regardless of its width. According to the data sheet, processor coolers may only be 105 millimeters high. The limitation, however, is a question of aesthetics: Larger models simply protrude beyond the frame of the chassis.

Freedom for the I/O module

Even the DA6's I/O module is modular. A model with a power button and a USB Type-C port that can be placed on the bottom or in the lid is included. At a later date, Streacom intends to offer further modules with USB-C and USB-A slots that can be used additionally or alternatively. In addition, there should also be a biometric I/O module with support for Windows Hello.

The launch of the DA6 and DA6 XL in chrome or black is announced for late July 2022. While the smaller model has a recommended retail price of 139 euros, the XL version should cost 149 euros.
