The 12,000 floating panels should be able to go to produce 7.5 GWh of electricity; per year . This energy will be also stored inside a 2 GWh storage system. The Alqueva plant will allow to supply energy to approximately 1,500 households.
But EDP does not intend to stop there. Indeed, there is already plans to expand the Alqueva project. In fact, the company had secured the right to build a second floating photovoltaic park with capacity; installed of 70 MW . A further interesting aspect of this project is; the possibility of the photovoltaic system to work in a coordinated way with the hydroelectric plant on the artificial lake.
