Apple users have been asking for it for years: when can Siri on the HomePod finally be Dutch and when will the speaker be for sale here? We now finally have an answer to that first question, because as of the latest version of 15.2, Siri on the HomePod can finally be Dutch. iCulture discovered this as a result of a reader tip. The release of the HomePod mini in the Netherlands therefore seems almost certain.

Siri on HomePod can be Dutch in 15.2: release near?

Apple has not yet announced anything about the release of the HomePod in the Netherlands. There were therefore no indications that the speaker would soon be released in our country, but 15.2 changes that in one fell swoop. Dutch has been added as a language option via the settings in the Home app on an iPhone or iPad and HomePod software update 15.2. If you choose that setting, you can talk to the HomePod in Dutch and you will receive an answer in Dutch.

What about Belgium?

In the settings there is also an option for Dutch (Belgium), but the voice itself remains only available in Dutch. So you cannot choose a Belgian/Flemish accent. It is therefore also unclear whether the speaker will soon be available in Belgium. becomes available.

In the release notes, Apple does not mention the addition of Dutch as a language, but does state that this update ‘Siri voice recognition for new languages’ supports. This probably concerns support for voice recognition in German. This feature was already promised for Germany and allows multiple users to use the HomePod for personal requests, such as sending messages and requesting calendar appointments. In Dutch, Siri on the HomePod does not support multiple users, as iCulture can confirm from our test.

Note: To be able to use Dutch, you need the beta profile of the HomePod software required. So it is not enough to use the beta of iOS 15.2 on the iPhone.

Software version 15.2 includes support for the Apple Music Voice subscription, a new subscription form designed to access music with Siri. In addition, this version offers Siri voice recognition for new languages. This update also includes performance and stability improvements.

To change the language of Siri on the HomePod, you need software update 15.2. It is currently only available as beta (Release Candidate) and is expected to be available to everyone very soon. We think 15.2 for the HomePod will be available sometime next week.

Change the language after installing software update 15.2:

  1. Open the Home app .
  2. Press and hold the HomePod (mini) for which you want to change the Siri language and scroll down.
  3. Tap Language under the Siri heading.
  4. Choose Dutch there and if necessary confirm whether you want to change the language on all HomePod speakers.

With Dutch you can choose from two types of voices, just like with Siri on your iPhone.< /p>

Want If you buy the HomePod mini, you can now also go to a number of stores in the Netherlands. You can see availability in our price comparator. The large original HomePod is only available as a refurbished copy, because it is no longer made by Apple.

Thanks to the tipster!
