At the end of October, the Taliban collected Kabul's drug addicts and drove them to detoxification camps where they have no access to drugs.

In AFP's interviews with several of the prisoners the addicts show that they were addicted to methamphetamine, a very addictive drug with a strong addiction and a long list of side effects. now, says one of the inmates, Mohammed, to AFP.

– I am happy to be in the hospital and happy with the treatment they have given us here. We get food and water and sleep and eat here, he says.

After 45 days of detoxification, the drug addicts are sent home again and it is then thought that they will return to work and support their families.

< The Taliban banned opium cultivation during their most recent rule in the 1990s, but according to AFP, heroin was produced in the villages of Afghanistan instead. This time, however, the Taliban has promised not to allow any drug production in the country.
