Solid state batteries if they are; often spoken. This technology, on paper, should allow electric cars to make a very important leap forward, especially in terms of autonomy and charging times . Several companies are working on it, even in collaboration with some car manufacturers. We cannot fail to mention the ambitious plans of Volskwagen, BMW and Toyota in this regard.

Apparently, Hyundai and Kia also intend to focus on this technology to be used at the interior of their future electric vehicles. To do this, they will work with Factorial Energy , a company & agrave; headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts which already stands; developing solid state cells. According to what has been learned, the agreement also provides for an investment by the Koreans in this company.

TIMES STILL NOT CLEAR

Factorial Energy would have developed its own technology that would allow it to solve all the problems related to the adoption of solid state batteries. In particular, the progress of this reality would be related to the use of technology called FEST (Factorial Electrolyte System Technology) , which uses a proprietary electrolytic material that allows safe use of the cells.

Hyundai and Kia speak of a generic improvement in autonomy compared to current batteries between between 20% and 50% . Is not serious; it is clear to what extent these percentages actually translate, but it would be, however, an important increase. However, everything would be on an equal footing; of cost with the current accumulators. Furthermore, it seems that these cells can be safely built within the current battery production chains.

All very interesting premises. What is missing, however, is; a very important information. Let's talk about when it will be; ready a first prototype of Hyundai and Kia equipped with these solid state accumulators. BMW, for example, aims to have a prototype ready for 2025. Korean car manufacturers, on the other hand, have not wanted to share any information on this point.

The project is; however very interesting and highlights how the automotive world is investing heavily in this technology. At this point all that remains is to wait for further news.
