The incident took place in the province of Östazarbaijan in northwestern Iran on Saturday.
Abedin Khorram gave his first speech as the new governor of the province when a man suddenly appeared and gave him an ear file. The loud bang echoed through the microphone.
Security guards then ran up to the scene and pulled away the attacker.
The man is said to be a soldier who was offended because his wife had been forced to go to a male doctor to be vaccinated against covid-19, reports the Daily Mail.
Khorram continued his speech after the attack, telling how he as an officer was captured by enemies during the war in Syria.
