If a few updates for Windows 10 recently led to problems with printers, the “tradition” continues with Windows 11. The printer manufacturer Brother has reported problems connecting via USB. According to reports from users, models from other manufacturers are also affected.

Brother reports problems with USB

In a support article Brother recommends, if the connection of the printer via the USB port in Windows 11 does not work, to switch to another connection option, such as a wireless radio connection, if this option is available.

Updating your operating system to Windows 11 may prevent your computer from:

  • Detecting your Brother machine when it is connected to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Changing your Brother machine's settings.
  • Connecting more than one Brother machine via USB.

More than 90 models listed by Brother have potentially affected by the problem. Brother's notice was dated October 4th, 2021. Thus, the problem became known even before Windows 11 was released. In another article Brother warns of problems with various printer tools after an update to Windows 11. Once again, printers connected via USB are affected.

Some users report similar problems with printers from other manufacturers, but some of them could be resolved by reinstalling the drivers, updating the firmware or various restarts.

Long before Windows 11 was released, there were already indications of printer problems with the new operating system. The printer problem is still missing from the official list of known problems with Windows 11.

Problems with AMD Ryzen not yet resolved

The fact that known problems were not resolved before the start of Windows 11 raised questions even in the event of a loss of performance with processors of the type AMD Ryzen. This problem should be addressed with updates in the coming week.

With the first cumulative update for Windows 11, Microsoft recently released security updates and solutions for compatibility problems with network solutions of the Intel “killer” type.
