After six years, the e-sports fair DreamHack Leipzig, which last welcomed 23,300 visitors in 2020, and the associated LAN party with more than 2,000 players will no longer be continued. The Swedish license holder of the event, DreamHack AB, let the contract with Leipziger Messe expire.

DreamHack Leipzig will no longer take place

As the Leipziger Messe GmbH and the organizers of DreamHack Leipzig announced in a joint press release on the official website of the fair, the event, which was held for the last time in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will no longer take place in the future.

Since 2016 DreamHack Leipzig has been organized annually under the direction of Leipziger Messe and Schenker Technologies/XMG. The event was only canceled in 2021.

Unfortunately this journey ends after six wonderful years, because the Swedish license holder DreamHack AB will not continue the contract with the Leipziger Messe.

There will therefore be no further edition of DreamHack Leipzig under the direction of Leipziger Messe and Schenker Technologies/XMG.

DreamHack Leipzig, press release

The organizers thanked all fans and visitors of DreamHack Leipzig and promised to bring a replacement for the e-sports fair and the LAN party in the exhibition halls of the Leipziger Messe.

We would like to thank you all very much: the now huge DreamHack Leipzig community, its exhibitors and partners who help to shape, develop and, above all, inspire the festival every year have celebrated. And we promise you that we will do everything we can to bring gaming back into our halls. Hopefully there will be gaming in Leipzig again soon!

DreamHack Leipzig, press release

As early as 2008, visitors to Leipzig had to take part in the Games Convention, the previous event of the game fair Gamescom, which was held at the Koelnmesse exhibition center in Cologne from 2009 onwards.

The editorial team thanks community member “Trimipramin” for pointing this out.
