To help tram drivers in their work, Bosch Engineering has developed the Tram Forward Collision Warning . This is a driving assistance system designed specifically for trams.
HOW IT WORKS 
risk of collision, this system warns the driver with a signal. If there is no intervention or if the driver intervenes late, the system automatically brakes the tram until it stops to prevent or at least reduce as much as possible; possible impact.
If the assistance system detects a critical approach, it alerts the driver by means of an audible signal and a visual indication on the control panel. If the driver does not react within two seconds, a safety function automatically brakes the tram until it comes to a complete stop. The deceleration occurs gradually in this way; not to cause damage or injury, even serious, to standing passengers.
From a technical point of view , this solution developed by Bosch & egrave; consisting of a multifunction camera, a radar sensor and an electronic control unit. The task of the camera is; that of detecting the limits of the tracks, so & igrave; such as vehicles and people in front of the tram and then communicate the information in real time to the radar sensor. All the information that has been acquired by the video and radar system flows into an overall image of the surrounding environment. Starting from this information and considering the speed; of the vehicle, the control unit calculates the risk of collision.
In addition to the advantage in terms of safety, the system also allows a considerable reduction of the physical and mental load on the driver. Bosch then pointed out that this solution is; in continuous evolution and in the coming years will come; further improved with even more sensors; efficient.
